We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our dear friend and esteemed colleague, Burton Brenner. Burt served as Vice President of the Board and as a trusted member of the team and Board of Trustees for many years. Burt's dedication and commitment to the Silver Spring Volunteer Fire Department were unparalleled, and he was awarded Life Membership in 1978 in recognition of his long-standing service to the department.

Burt was held in high regard by all who knew him, and his contributions to the department and community were invaluable. He took immense pride in his affiliation with the fire department and represented the SSFD at numerous official functions. One of his many notable contributions was delivering the annual presentation of the Silver Spring Fire Prevention Award during the MSFA Conference and Convention in Ocean City.

Aside from his service to the fire department, Burt also owned a well-respected jewelry store on Georgia Avenue in Montgomery Hills for many years. After moving from Four Corners, Burt and his wife, Mary, lived in Leisure World and continued to be active members of the community. In more recent years, Burt was involved with the department’s Life Safety Unit and assisted the neighboring department.

Burt was a remarkable person, and his legacy of service and dedication to the Silver Spring Fire Department will be remembered for generations to come. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time, and we will truly miss him.
